CalOHII is pleased to announce the selection of two demonstration projects for the electronic exchange of health information. The following two organizations will join the current participant, San Diego Beacon eHealth Community, in evaluating the operational feasibility of implementing various consent policies.
Inland Empire Health Information Exchange
The Inland Empire Health Information Exchange is a collaborative of hospitals, medical centers, medical groups, clinics, IPAs, health plans, public health and other healthcare providers bringing needed technology to access and securely share electronic patient records for the more than 4.2 million residents of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. IEHIE helps providers take advantage of technology to improve care coordination and outcomes in a region that is challenged with poor patient access and poor health ratings. IEHIE is one of the largest HIE’s in the country and has successfully achieved financial self-sustainability.
Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange
As one of the oldest and most advanced multi-stakeholder exchanges in the country, the Santa Cruz Health Information Exchange connects a diverse set of healthcare organizations, such as large IPA, hospitals, public health clinics, County Detention, national and regional reference labs, imaging centers, and safety net clinics. More than 1.2 million web transactions occur each month on the HIE and more than 120,000 clinical documents consisting of lab results, electronic prescriptions, refill requests, pre-treatment authorizations, orders, referrals, consult letters, H&P, radiology reports and transcribed documents are exchanged.
Both the Inland Empire HIE and Santa Cruz HIE will be able to test privacy and security policies across a broad spectrum of health care stakeholders. CalOHII looks forward to working with these two innovative and progressive organizations as we test privacy and security policies for electronic exchange of health information.
